Discipleship in Parenting
Delivered April 27, 2008 on Deuteronomy 6:4-12 by Nathan Carico
Raising children in our culture is tough. Some of us view it with a great deal of cynicism because of what we were like as kids or teenagers. If we are honest with ourselves, we have to admit that often we view our kids and parent them like they are extensions of ourselves to bring us glory, fame, and purpose. We desire to parent successfully in order to ensure our glory. But Deuteronomy 6 has a different view, it calls all parents to discipleship to conform our kids to the image of Christ and not ourselves in light of the fact that we are so cared for and loved by a Father that rescues his children from slavery of the self.
