Building Update

January 28, 2009 by Carter

Through your giving God has richly provided for Cornerstone in remodeling our Education building and Sanctuary building. It has served to foster a better sense of community among our church family. I love to leave worship and see people clustered in groups talking with each other as kids play on the playground. The updates have also enhanced our ability to benefit the community. There are many groups that currently use our facilities (boy scouts, a school, other churches). While it all may seem subtle and some of it happens outside of our observation, it is significant.

We have also been fortunate to be able to build with existing funding. We have not borrowed any money to pay for the remodeling efforts of either of our buildings. That is a tremendous praise! We want to continue that course as we move to the next phase of remodeling. But to do that we need your help. The first two phases (remodeling of education building and sanctuary) have exhausted our building fund. Each week in the bulletin we show total budget, the amount received to date, and the amount needed to complete all of the phases. The amount needed is not debt, but the amount we will need to raise in order to do the final phases.

Total Budget: 242,000
Received to Date: 172,197
Amount Needed: 69,803

The final phases involve:

  • Update our Mason Rd sign. As we saw from John 2, signs are significant as they say a lot about that which they represent. We are eager to update our sign so that it reflects the warm and welcoming culture of our church. The cost to redo the sign is just a bit above $10,000.
  • Remodel the “upper room” of the gym. We want to redo the upstairs space in the gym by replacing the old carpet with tile and laminate flooring, build a counter with a sink, purchase some tables and furniture, repaint the room, and fix up the a/v equipment. This will allow us to host most of the CSCK events in the gym as well as have a nice place for women’s Bible Studies and men’s events.
  • Make the gym into a usable basketball gym. This involves purchasing some basketball goals and updating the a/v area to make it more out of the way. This speaks for itself as it was the original intent of the building.
  • Build a covered pavilion/patio next to the playground. Our hope is to further foster community and better connect the playground to the fellowship hall. Adding a door to the West side of the fellowship hall will allow the new patio to be an extension of the fellowship hall (albeit outside) and provide a place for parents to sit and talk while children play on the playground.

Would you consider giving to the building fund? Our plan is to make the updates as the funds are available so your giving will determine the timetable to our continued efforts.

May Christ bless Katy through His Church,

Carter
