Made Alive In Christ

Delivered 07/19/2009 on Ephesians 2:1-10 by Nathan Carico

dead_310The film, August Rush, is about an orphan who is seeking his parents and finds himself on the streets living with a group of other orphans and an overseer named Wizard who exploits the musical talents of the orphans for his own gain.  Wizard discovers that August is a musical protege and he starts to dream with August about what he can become.  In one scene, Wizard asks August, “if you could be anything in the world…anything at all, August, what would it be?”  And the orphan replies, “found.”  The Apostle Paul devotes the first three chapters of Ephesians to building the identity of the church by telling an orphaned group of people in an uncertain world that they are found and made alive in Christ.  This is their new identity.  They are new creations made for good works.  And so it is for us.  Church, you were once dead people walking and now you are made alive in Christ.
