vbs2010This summer we are breaking from our traditional VBS format.  The first change is moving to an evening schedule:  Wednesday, June 16 through Friday, June 18 from 6 – 8 p.m. (6-9 on Friday) and is open to the entire family should everyone wish to participate.

VBS will also kick off the first of three local mission opportunities in which Cornerstone members will partner with churches and organizations in downtown Houston and Katy.  The first one is Saturday, June 19.

Additionally, this year VBS will be a mini Cornerstone School of Covenant and Kingdom – CSCK.  CSCK is the name of our Wednesday night ministry which runs during the school year.  Click here to find out more about CSCK.

Mark your calendars for the dates below:

  • Wednesday, June 16 Covenant Training: we break into “covenant groups” of our own ages and receive a lesson centered on the Westminster Catechisms and the Children’s First Catechism.
  • Thursday, June 17 Kingdom Telling: we will break into houses (we use “houses” to sort students and professors) and work on some art form that will enable us to tell one another stories of the Kingdom of Christ reiterating the catechism questions we learned the night before.
  • Friday, June 18 Kingdom Feast: we share a meal together, play fantastic games, again revisit catechism memorization, and maybe even watch a movie together on the church lawn.
  • Saturday, June 19 Kingdom Action: an extension of what we have learned the previous three nights as the gospel propels us to take action and serve others who are in need of the same grace we have received – serving for the sake of his Kingdom come on Earth as it is in heaven.

The curriculum will be based on the catechism questions relating to the Lord’s Prayer.  This will tie in with our current sermon series beautifully.  We will focus on how God reached out to us – by coming to earth – sending us the Holy Spirit and teaching us how to pray and be in relationship with Him.  Hence the title, “God Touches Down.”

In turn, after the movie on Friday night, we plan to sleep at the church in the metal gym building and then caravan to the sites where we will serve throughout the day on Saturday.

All ages are welcome to CSCK VBS and all are welcome to come and serve on the day trips to Houston and Katy!
