The Life of Prayer
Delivered 7/11/2010 on 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 by Carter Sanger
When you look at your own life, what kinds of activities characterize it? What activity stands out so vividly that the rest of your life will be seen in it’s light? At the end of Paul’s letter to the Thessalonian Church he gives a laundry list of final instruction that may seem to be of lesser importance because of their shortness. But if you look carefully, you’ll notice a theme to them. They all have to do with activities that are meant to characterize the believer’s life. Paul writes, “rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances…” The common element = “always.” The central activity = prayer.
