In Paul’s letters in the New Testament he tells us that the church is one. While there are many images in the Bible that depict the oneness of the church, perhaps none do so as clearly as the image of a body. He teaches us that the church is a body–a single body–growing and maturing and living as one. That doesn’t mean that the church is problem free. The church is filled with problems. And yet, even so, it is the closest hint we have of real brotherhood. Last week we considered the makeup of the church. Gentiles and Jews have been brought together. Two people groups historically and culturally bent against one another are brought together as one people. That accomplishment is something to take note of. Even though we find struggles in the church, we still find a brotherhood that is nothing short of amazing. And because Christians are the body of Christ, they must live connected lives.
